Polish President Andrzej Duda joined the list of foreign leaders beating a path to Donald Trump’s door this week, in the latest European acknowledgment of the Republican’s clout as a once-and-possibly-future president of the United States.

“It was a friendly meeting in a very nice atmosphere,” Duda told Polish media after his Wednesday evening dinner.

Trump struck a collegial tone when welcoming the Polish leader, whom he described as a “friend,” adding that “we’re behind Poland all the way.” And that’s a sound bite that many European leaders are eager to hear, as they eye with alarm President Joe Biden’s poll numbers, Trump’s campaign speeches, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and congressional Republican opposition to continued U.S. aid for Ukraine. Read Full Story

House Speaker Mike Johnson revealed on Monday night his proposal to pass separate measures this week to send aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. 

Johnson’s plan intends to satisfy his right flank as well as national security hawks by separating the bills and providing billions of dollars in aid to the three nations.

There is no guarantee these funding bills will be separated by the time they reach the Senate, as House lawmakers are still discussing whether they would be merged into one package that is sent to the Senate or sent individually.

Additionally, Johnson said votes related to sanctions on Iran are expected following their attack of more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel on Saturday, and added “the final product” will be something in which everybody can have confidence. Read Full Story

House Speaker Mike Johnson and former President Donald Trump will be getting together for a joint press conference on election integrity on Friday. 

The event will be held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, as Johnson aims to display his ties to the former president while facing a motion to vacate over his support of a bipartisan government funding bill. 

The meeting also comes as Trump heatedly urged House Republicans to kill a proposed reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the government’s main tool for conducting surveillance. Read Full Story
