Obama Drops Plan to Trim Social Security, Losing Hope on Grand Bargain

President Obama’s budget request for 2015 drops his previous promise to trim cost-of-living increases in Social Security over time, The Hill reports. Last year’s budget proposal included a slight reduction as part of negotiations for a “grand bargain” on debt. But the White House pulled the proposal this year until “the Republicans decide they want to engage in a serious discussion.”
