Republicans are returning Tuesday for day two of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee after a busy kickoff day that featured the formal nomination of former President Donald Trump, the highly anticipated announcement of his running mate — and Trump’s first public appearance since an attack on his life over the weekend.

Tuesday’s theme is “Make America Safe Again,” and will focus on Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies that officials say have created “dystopian nightmares” in U.S. cities and communities.

Republicans have accused President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party at large of fomenting a crime wave with lax law enforcement policies, a theme they will double down on three days after a gunman came within inches of taking Trump’s life despite warnings of his presence ahead of time.
