Al Qaeda Seizes Iraq City; Did Gitmo Detainees Know of Transfer Before Congress?

Fighters in an Iraqi off-shoot of al-Qaeda seized control Tuesday of Mosul, the provincial capitol and most prominent city in northern Iraq, reports the Washington Post. Osama Nujaifi, Iraq’s leading member of Parliament, announced in a televised news conference that the city was entirely in the control of terrorists and that Iraqi troops had abandoned their posts, “When the battle got tough in the city of Mosul, the troops dropped their weapons and abandoned their posts, making it an easy prey for the terrorists.”
