Facing the prospects of a trouncing in the fall midterm elections, Democrats are placing a risky bet by boosting hard-right Republican candidates in several election primaries across the country. The hope is to elevate less-electable “spoiler” candidates who have fringe views they believe would be easier to beat in November.
