As the Ukraine crisis near the end of its first week, both Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain compared Putin’s invasion of Crimea to Hitler invasion of “the Sudentenland.” According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, Hillary told a small crowd at a California fundraiser, “Now if this sounds familiar, it’s what Hitler did back in the 30s. All the Germans that were … the ethnic Germans, the Germans by ancestry who were in places like Czechoslovakia and Romania and other places. Hitler kept saying they’re not being treated right. I must go and protect my peole and that’s what’s gotten everybody so nervous.” Roll Call reports Sen. John McCain struck nearly an identical tone, “If Vladimir Putin gets away with saying he’s defending the rights of Russian speaking peoples, that is the same thing – excuse that Hitler used.” McCain also warned that Poland could be next – just as it was in 1939.
