Chinese scientists manipulated lethal viruses under unsafe conditions at the Wuhan Institute of Virology prior to the coronavirus outbreak, fueling suspicions the pandemic was caused by a lab leak, according to a new congressional report.

The Wuhan lab was engaged in “dangerous genetic modification research on coronaviruses at unsafe biosafety levels,” according to the report, authored by the minority staff on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The report includes revelations about unsafe working conditions at the lab, as well as new information indicating the Chinese government sought to mislead the world about the experiments taking place there. Congressional investigators say researchers at the lab “had the ability to genetically modify coronaviruses as early as 2016 without leaving any trace of that modification.” Read Full Story

A group of House Republicans wants answers about District jail conditions for defendants charged in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot following reports of harsh treatment.

Reps. Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Louie Gohmert and Bob Good, who traveled to visit the local District jail on Thursday, said they were denied entry when they requested to see how the facility was being run.

The lawmakers said they went to see conditions firsthand after letters to the facility seeking information went unanswered.

The four said they were turned away after being told they were trespassing. Read Full Story

House GOP leaders teed off on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tuesday morning, accusing her of neglecting her duty to defend the Capitol on Jan. 6 and demanding answers about her role in the violent attack that injured more than 140 police officers.

“On Jan. 6 these brave officers were put into a vulnerable, and impossible position because the leadership at the top [had] failed,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters just outside the Capitol.

The accusations served as a prebuttal to the House select committee’s investigation into the attack, which was set to kick off shortly after the Republican press conference without any allies of former President Donald Trump on the panel. Read Full Story
