House Speaker John Boehner told reporters Thursday that the House would reject the short-term spending plan expected to be passed by the Senate in the next few days, dramatically increasing the likelihood of a government shutdown, reports the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. At the same time, The Hill reports that House GOP leadership does not have enough Republican votes to increase the debt ceiling – even with a long laundry list of conservative policy proposals and a one-year delay in the ObamaCare individual mandate. House conservatives are holding out for more substantial spending cuts.
