The Supreme Court upheld the common practice of prayer before public meetings in a divided 5-4 ruling Monday. The Court, in an opinion written by Justice Anthony Kenney, explained that, “Ceremonial prayer is but a recognition that, since this Nation was founded and until the present day, many Americans deem their own existence must be understood by precepts far beyond the authority of government.” The Washington Post reports in full.
