While Americans enjoyed the holiday weekend, President Obama reversed course and decided to ask for Congressional authorization before taking action against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. Syria touts Obama’s action as an “historic American retreat.” Despite today’s bluster, Britain’s DailyMail published photos of Sec. of State John Kerry having a “cozy and intimate dinner” with Assad in 2009. And the Washington Times points out that the Democrats leading the charge for Obama all defended Assad against President Bush in a different time. Politico reports Bushies are worried Obama is weakening the foreign policy powers of the presidency. And it looks doubtful that Congress will authorize the use of force. Sen. John McCain told CBS’ Face the Nation Sunday that he had to see Obama’s war plan before he’d vote yes.
