The White House recently proposed a plan to keep funding Planned Parenthood if the nonprofit organization discontinued providing abortions, The New York Times reported.

The offer was rejected by Planned Parenthood officials.

“Let’s be clear, federal funds already do not pay for abortions,” Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, told the Times.

“As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life, and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health, and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings,” he told the Times. “Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice. There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not providing abortion services.”

President Trump signed a new travel ban Monday that administration officials said they hope will end legal challenges over the matter by imposing a 90-day ban on the issuance of new visas for citizens of six majority-Muslim nations, authorities said.

President Trump’s pledge to rebuild the military does not include the armed services’ fifth branch — the U.S. Coast Guard, reports The Washington Times.  “It’s nonsensical to pursue a policy of rebuilding the armed forces while proposing large reductions to the U.S. Coast Guard budget,” Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican, said Thursday in a letter to the president.
