House Speaker John Boehner warned President Obama Sunday that he would not bring up bills to fund the federal government or increase the debt ceiling until President Obama and Senate Democrats agreed to negotiate on large-scale spending reforms, reports the Wall Street Journal. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, warned in response that Congress was “playing with fire” by threatening not to raise the debt limit. Meanwhile, 60 Minutes aired Disability, USA, an in-depth story with Sen. Tom Coburn about the federal disability program facing out-of-control cost increases. Finally, the Washington Examiner notes that 83% of the federal government is still operating despite the shutdown.
