Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is asking the Senate Homeland Security Committee to call on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray to testify after the Jan. 1 New Orleans attack.
Hawley sent a letter to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., incoming chairman of the committee, emphasizing Biden administration officials “cannot shirk public accountability” as President Joe Biden’s term ends.
Hawley stressed he wants a “full account of this attack” and any failures by their departments highlighted. Read Full Story

House Speaker Mike Johnson is not out of the woods in his fight to retain his gavel, even after receiving a crucial endorsement from President-elect Donald Trump on Monday.
Johnson is set to have just a 219-215 majority when the House returns on Jan. 3, meaning he will likely only be able to lose one vote. There are several holdouts among Republicans who are unhappy with Johnson, most recently for passing a government funding bill with bipartisan support, including Rep. Thomas Massie of Texas who has already said he would vote against him. Read Full Story

Red state attorneys general are looking forward to working with the incoming Trump administration’s Department of Justice, readying themselves for reversing Biden Justice Department policies on immigration, crime, the environment, student loans, and other issues.
“The last four years, the Biden administration has attacked red states — not only their laws, but their values. So, it is going to be a refreshing change,” said Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.
Red states have also been fighting back against the federal policies
on medical treatment for youth looking to change genders, federal policies on Obamacare for illegal immigrants, electric vehicle mandates, power plant emissions standards, and efficiency requirements for stoves and ovens. Read Full Story
