Pakistani Secrets to Hunt for Bin Laden Revealed – Speeding Tickets and Cowboy Hats

Tue Jul 9, 2013 AT 10:08 AM EDT

Britain’s Telegraph and DailyMail each detail a newly released report from Pakistan on the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The report, leaked to and released in full by Al Jazeera, was requested by the Pakistani government to examine the failure to catch OBL. Among the revelations, OBL was nearly caught in 2002 or 2003 when a car in which he was a passenger was stopped for speeding. He also took to wearing cowboy hats to avoid drone detection. In a surprise to observers of Pakistani politics who expected a whitewash of Pakistan’s own failures, the report was highly critical of both Pakistan and the United States.
