Republican Wave Takes Congress

Wed Nov 5, 2014 AT 7:49 AM EST

A Republican electoral wave took back the United States Senate, moved its House majority to record levels, and won key governor races across the country yesterday, reports Newsmax. By Wednesday morning, Republicans controlled 52 seats in the Senate. Alaska could make it 53 today as Republican Dan Sullivan holds a nearly four point lead but ballot are still being tallied. Louisiana will likely make it 54 in December. Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu garnered the most votes in her bid for re-election, but will head into a run-off in December where she will be a decided underdog against Republican Bill Cassidy.
