USA Today reports that the Department of Homeland Security issued a dramatically broad set of orders Tuesday to fulfill President Trump’s plan to increase immigration enforcement, placing most of America’s 11 million illegal aliens at risk of deportation. The memos require undocumented immigrants to be placed in detention until their cases are resolved, increase the ability of local police to help in immigration enforcement, call for the hiring of 10,000 more immigration agents and allow planning to begin on an expansion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

A new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies indicates that even if President Trump’s proposed border wall costs the high estimate of $16 billion, it would still pay for itself in three years of operation and could save $64 billion over a 10-year period. The savings would come from eliminating welfare, education, and other associated lifetime costs to federal, state and local taxpayers to care for the  immigrants who sneak across the border each year, reports the Washington Examiner.

While answering questions at NATO headquarters in Brussels Thursday, Defense Secretary James Mattis said of Russia, “There is very little doubt that they have either interfered or attempted to interfere in a number of elections in democracies,”reports The Hill. Mattis added that he does not feel compelled to respond to Russian officials who dislike his call for America to deal with Moscow from a position of strength.
