A month of special election upsets and improved standing in generic ballot polling have narrowed a House battlefield that seemed to be expanding for the GOP into some heavily blue districts. The shift has lifted some Democrat incumbents out of immediate peril and made some Republican members squirm after feeling safe earlier this year.

House Democrats face this sobering fact: Republicans may not need to flip any districts that Biden carried in 2020 to reclaim the majority. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her caucus are also staring down a coming wave of outside spending, which could swamp them in TV ads in the critical final weeks of the midterms. Attorney General Merrick Garland has issued a memo blocking Justice Department employees from communicating with members of Congress in the wake of whistleblower disclosures regarding the FBI probe into Hunter Biden’s business affairs.

Garland wrote that all communication with Congress must be conducted through the department’s office of legislative affairs.

The policy is “to protect our criminal and civil law enforcement decisions, and our legal judgment from partisans or other inappropriate influences, whether real or perceived or indirect,” he said in the memo, sent late Tuesday.

However, Garland stressed the new policies “are not intended to conflict with or limit whistleblower protections” and that “Congress may carry out its legislative oversight functions.” Read Full Story

On the anniversary of the return of the remains of 13 Marines who were killed in a bombing at the Kabul, Afghanistan, international airport, the GOP is reminding the public of President Joe Biden’s actions during the dignified transfer. 

The deaths came in August 2021 during the period of U.S. withdrawal from the country under Biden. And during the return of their remains to the United States, Biden was snapped checking the time.

“One year ago today, Joe Biden checked his watch and Veterans @michaelgwaltz & @TonyGonzales4TX have something to say about it,” the GOP tweeted. Read Full Story
