Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to move ahead with rules for an impeachment trial without an agreement from Democrats, an individual familiar with the matter told the Washington Examiner.

The agreement does not address the fact that the House of Representatives has not sent over articles of impeachment, and Republicans still plan to wait to receive the articles before beginning the trial.

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, has not been able to reach an accord with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat. He’ll move ahead without an agreement, the individual said, after gaining a consensus among GOP senators. Read Full Story

It may be a new year and a new decade, but it looks like Democrats are determined to continue their descent into utter foolishness. As we approach the 2020 presidential election, voters will weigh policies and opinions that have been pushed by the party’s far-left flank. In this country, where 70 percent still self-identify as “conservative” or “moderate,” that is unlikely to turn out well for Democrats.

President Donald Trump assailed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in a series of tweets early Thursday, saying she should “clean up” her “filthy” and “dirty” district and suggesting she should face a primary challenger in 2020.

Trump, who repeated his earlier characterizations of Pelosi as “crazy,” continued his theme of lashing out at Democrats roughly a week after the House voted largely along party lines to pass articles of impeachment accusing him of abusing his office and obstructing Congress.

Trump has taken particular issue with Pelosi over her decision to delay sending the two articles of impeachment to the Senate until the rules for the impeachment trial in the upper chamber are made clear.
