Poll after poll showing voter discontent with President Joe Biden and the economy is cementing Republicans’ sense that a GOP House majority is all but inevitable, while boosting their hopes about taking control of the Senate and flipping some gubernatorial and state-level seats.

“The cake is pretty well baked at this point in favor of the Republicans taking control of the House,” said GOP consultant John Thomas. “The Republicans would have to willfully work to screw it up. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible.” Read Full Story

Former President Donald Trump has an early edge over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 rematch, according to a new Emerson College poll. 

The national survey shows Trump leading Biden 44% to 39% in a head-to-head match-up, while another 12% of voters say they plan to vote for someone else. 

Trump’s support has held firm since May, when the same poll found him notching 44% support in a 2024 race against Biden. But Biden’s support has waned somewhat since then, dropping from 42% in May to 39% in late June. Read Full Story

A judge on Monday blocked a New York City law that would allow almost 1  million foreigners to vote in municipal elections.

Justice Ralph Porzio in Staten Island, N.Y., faulted city officials for side-stepping the state constitution to get between 800,000 and 1 million non-citizens on New York’s voter rolls. The law allows legal immigrants who are not citizens to vote for municipal offices in New York City, including mayor, city councilman, and comptroller. These so-called municipal voters can’t vote in state or federal elections.

Voting rights for foreigners in local elections are gaining traction in left-wing enclaves around the country. San Francisco has allowed non-citizen voting since 2017, as have a handful of towns in Maryland and Vermont, according to the Pew Research Center. New York’s City Council joined that list in December. The law was slated to take effect in January 2023. Read Full Story
